Contribute
Here is a solid and fair criteria framework for the hardship model:
The Chic10 Contribution Pathway
Earning tier advancement through demonstrated value
The Principle
The hardship pathway exists because genuine talent and genuine need sometimes coincide. A student in Lagos, a journalist in Karachi, a translator in Manila — people with real analytical ability and real financial constraint — should have a path into the ecosystem that is not blocked by price alone.
The pathway is real. It is also rigorous. The tier you earn through contribution should feel like the tier you paid for — because the contribution that earns it is genuinely equivalent in value.
The Application Process
Step One: Written application
A clear, honest statement covering three things:
- Who you are and what you do
- Why the financial barrier is genuine — not elaborate, not documented to excess, just honest
- What you can contribute and why you believe it meets the standard
No supporting documents required at this stage. We are assessing judgment and honesty, not circumstances.
Step Two: Trial contribution
Before any tier advancement is granted, one sample contribution is required. This protects both parties — the applicant invests a defined, limited amount of effort before committing to a longer relationship, and the network assesses actual quality rather than promised quality.
The trial contribution is evaluated within 14 days. If it meets the standard, the pathway opens. If it does not, specific feedback is provided and one revision is permitted.
Step Three: Ongoing contribution agreement
Once accepted, the member agrees to a specific contribution commitment per month in exchange for tier access. The commitment is documented, agreed to by both parties, and reviewed quarterly.
If life circumstances change and the member can no longer fulfill the commitment, they notify the network. There is no penalty. The tier access pauses until contribution resumes or circumstances change.
Contribution Standards by Tier
Free to Signal — $25/month equivalent
One of the following per month:
Translation of one Weekly Foresight Brief into a qualifying language — Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Urdu, or Indonesian. Translation must be accurate, natural, and suitable for publication without significant editorial revision.
Or: One verified regional intelligence contribution — a documented, primary-source piece of information about a region, market, or political situation that the network cannot easily obtain from its existing sources. Must include source verification.
Or: One substantive comment or analysis published in the Chic10 community that generates meaningful engagement and is judged by the editorial team to add genuine value to the conversation.
Signal to Oronode — $65/month equivalent
One of the following per month:
A translated Deep Dive essay — longer form, higher standard. Must require minimal editorial revision and preserve the voice and analytical register of the original.
Or: A verified primary source intelligence contribution that is substantive enough to inform a Weekly Foresight Brief or Deep Dive. This means documented, specific, and genuinely unavailable through open source research.
Or: A guest analysis piece of 1,500 words minimum that meets Oronode editorial standards — analytical depth, the Elliptical framework applied correctly, factually verified. Editorial team reserves the right to publish with attribution, publish anonymously, or decline with feedback.
Oronode to Orbit — $5,000/month equivalent
This tier requires sustained contribution over a minimum of six months at the Oronode level before advancement is considered.
At the Orbit level, the contribution must be institutional in nature:
A documented professional skill deployed in service of the network — legal analysis, financial modeling, technical architecture, regional expertise with verified credentials, or journalistic investigation that produces publishable intelligence.
Or: Sustained translation and editorial contribution at a volume and quality that demonstrably reduces the network’s operational costs — minimum three pieces per month over six consecutive months, all meeting publication standard without revision.
The Oronode-to-Orbit pathway is the most demanding because the Orbit tier is the institutional tier. The contribution that earns it must be institutional in quality.
Advancement at this level requires editorial team consensus, not individual approval.
What Is Never Required
Contributions that compromise the contributor’s safety, privacy, or professional standing.
Contributions that involve sharing confidential information from the contributor’s employer or clients.
Contributions that require the contributor to misrepresent their identity or credentials.
Public disclosure of the contributor’s hardship status. The pathway is private. No member’s method of access is disclosed to other members.
What Is Always Protected
The contributor’s dignity. The hardship pathway is not charity. It is a transaction — a genuine exchange of value for value. Contributors are treated as members, not as beneficiaries.
The contributor’s privacy. Application details are held by the editorial team only and are never used in marketing, case studies, or public communications without explicit written consent.
The contributor’s time. If a trial contribution does not meet the standard, feedback is specific, actionable, and delivered within 14 days. We do not leave contributors waiting.
The Review Process
Applications are reviewed by the editorial team — currently M.W. Tyler and designated senior editors.
Decisions are communicated within 14 days of trial contribution submission.
Quarterly reviews assess whether the contribution commitment is being met and whether tier access remains appropriate.
Contributors can request a review of any decision. The request is heard by a second editor not involved in the original decision.
The Honest Limitation
The hardship pathway cannot be unlimited. If the contribution pathway becomes the primary route into the network, the financial sustainability of the network — which funds the free tier and everything above it — is compromised.
A reasonable cap: hardship pathway members constitute no more than 15% of any paid tier at any time. When a tier reaches capacity on the pathway, applications are held on a waitlist and admitted as space opens.
This is not a restriction on who deserves access. It is the honest acknowledgment that the fortress has to be funded to stand.
The Statement of Intent
The hardship pathway exists because the Chic10 mission — free philosophy for everyone, sovereign intelligence for those who need it — is not just a marketing position.
It is a belief that the quality of a person’s thinking is not determined by the size of their bank account.
The pathway is rigorous because the tiers are rigorous. The contribution that earns Signal access is worth Signal access. The contribution that earns Oronode access is worth Oronode access.
We are not giving anything away. We are recognizing value where it exists — regardless of the circumstances that surround it.
