The Cozumel Option Leg
THE OPTION LEG
Fracture Clock Ledger entry. What a triangle route reveals about where an airline does not yet know the yield.
Entry fields

- State: A, first signal. Route announced, not yet operated.
- Calendar-clock timestamp: 6 October 2026. Public timestamp and Post ID to be appended at posting; not Active until then.

- Sub-type note: not a Produced Delay entry. No actor holds a financial stake in a gap.
1. The observation
Neos is adding a weekly Milan Malpensa – Cozumel – Cancun – Milan Malpensa rotation on a 787-9, effective 24 December 2026, Thursdays, NO484. AeroRoutes reported it on 12 August 2026, and Italian and German trade outlets followed.
A triangle serves two destinations with one aircraft. Airlines use the shape when they haven’t resolved which destination will carry the yield. Cancun is the larger, established gateway. Cozumel is the added point. So the Cozumel leg is the option, and the Cancun leg is the hedge that makes the option cheap.
2. What is under test
The triangle is a transitional shape. By Neos’s NW27/28 filing, the Cozumel leg will have been resolved: dropped, or promoted. More likely than not, the unchanged weekly triangle is not what remains.
| Outcome | Definition | P |
| Hold | MXP-CZM-CUN triangle, 1 weekly, no other CZM service | 45% |
| Lapse | No scheduled Neos service to CZM | 30% |
| Exercise | 2+ weekly, or standalone nonstop without Cancun, or a second European origin | 25% |
Headline claim: Lapse + Exercise = 55%. The distribution is committed before any outcome is observable and is not revised.
3. Second call: Cozumel stays an option, not a market
Through 30 April 2028, no carrier other than Neos will operate published, bookable nonstop passenger service from any European origin to Cozumel. Probability 85%.
4. Falsification criteria (pre-registered)
- Triangle resolves. Falsified if the NW27/28 filing shows Hold exactly as defined. Sources: Neos schedule, AeroRoutes/OAG. Closes 31 Oct 2027.
- No second carrier. Falsified if any non-Neos carrier opens bookable nonstop Europe-CZM service, scheduled or published charter. Sources: AeroRoutes, airline sites, CZM airport operator. Closes 30 Apr 2028.
5. Duhem-Quine separation
- Background facts, not under test: announced 12 Aug 2026; starts 24 Dec 2026; weekly, Thursdays, 787-9; Cancun is the larger Mexican gateway; Neos is an Italian leisure carrier.
- Auxiliary hypotheses that could fail without the structural read failing: Neos aircraft allocation and fleet changes, fuel prices, airspace or geopolitical disruption to Neos’s network, hurricane damage to CZM, insolvency or merger.
- Void rule: if the outcome is driven by one of those force-majeure events, the entry is Not Scorable, not Hit or Miss.
6. Evidentiary limits
Sources disagree on departure times by about an hour, and one listing shows Cancun return service starting 31 December. Times and exact rotation are soft; the pattern (weekly triangle, 787-9, 24 December start) is the durable fact. Probabilities are pre-registered estimates based on judgment, not a computed base rate. No same-owner or unresolved-ownership citations are used.
7. Ecosystem placement
- Qroo node: the register can read the island the charter timetable will not show.
- Anchor: permanence as the precondition of mobility, now with a weekly European foothold.
- Summit crossover: alpine and Caribbean winter catchments draw from the same Milan departure weeks.
- Present progressive: a European route into Quintana Roo is being tested, not established.
Append-only. Observations are fixed at their original timestamp; later interpretation is logged from a later point on the calendar clock.
